Who We Are
Animal Welfare Rescue Foundation (AWRF) is a registered non-profit founded in 2022, headquartered in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Born from urgency and compassion, AWRF was established to create a structured, professional response to the animal welfare crisis in India.
India is home to an estimated 35 million stray dogs alone, alongside millions of cattle, cats, birds, and wild animals facing daily threats. AWRF was founded to change that reality — starting in Varanasi and expanding across six states.
Our Story
AWRF began as a grassroots initiative driven by passionate animal lovers around Varanasi. The founding team witnessed suffering on the streets and decided witnessing was not enough — action was needed.
What started with a handful of volunteers has grown into trained rescue teams, veterinary partnerships, feeding programs, and community education across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, and Jharkhand.
